Vitrimers for stereolithography applications: Vitrimers can be more easily reshaped. They have the applicability of a composite, but the processability of a thermoplastic.

New sustainable materials

The challenge
Still too many plastics end up as harmful waste in the environment. We must look for a sustainable alternative for these materials. Or we must use raw material flows that we still consider as waste today.

This is what we do
At Greenwise Campus, we develop new plastics and/or composites: degradable and better alternatives for necessary materials, but which cause (much) harm to the natural living environment. We have set up a number of projects for this.

Our projects
It concerns the following projects: Vitrimers for stereolithography applications, Polyesteramides for technical yarns, Polyesteramides as PVC replacement for medical application, chemically reinforced plastics for biocomposites, lignin matrix for biocomposites and Pultrusion of biocomposites.

Where we stand now
Read more about the projects in the following story cards.

Polyesteramides for technical yarns: In this project, we are working on a bio-based and degradable replacement for regular polyester that can be used for yarns, for example.

Polyesteramides as PVC replacement for medical application: research focusing on making a replacement for polyester on the basis of organic raw materials without chlorine, with same qualities as PVC. Vitrimers as matrix for biocomposites: A bio-based fibre makes fabric stronger and more processable

Lignin matrix for biocomposites: Lignin is often a waste product, but can perhaps be applied in composites as matrix. Pultrusion of biocomposites: Development of biocomposite-based profiles (such as planks and tubes) made by pultrusion.

What’s next?
Most of these projects are still ongoing. To follow up on these projects, we see opportunities in getting more companies involved. Interested in learning more about the possibilities? Feel free to contact one of our researchers.
