The challenge

The issues surrounding care, health and welfare are complex. Exploring and seeing these from different perspectives, and involving young people, can help us find innovative solutions. The Social Issues Lab is a place where students and partners in the field work on this.

This is what we do

Greenwise Campus collaborates with the Social Issues Lab of NHL Stenden. Students from different programmes work on issues with a design-based approach to acquire insight and determine the follow-up steps. We focus on technical and social innovation in close collaboration with the Health Care & Technology practicum. This is how we also include the MBO and where students from different levels meet.

Studenten

In September 2023, the first student groups began. In collaboration with the municipalities of Emmen and Coevorden, preparations have been made and discussions have been held with organisations in the field. The Health Care & Technology practicum introduced the first issues. Students work on Wednesdays at Growing Emmen, which provides inspiration and stimulates entrepreneurship.

Onderzoek gezondheidszorg

What is the relationship between poverty and health? What is the effect of stress? The students, together with the people concerned and the regional partners in the field, explore these issues. We are including students in this work method from the beginning. This is also how we can contribute to a ‘learning region’.

Where we stand now

We discussed how we can address a common issue with the municipalities of South and East Drenthe. This will be a long-term partnership. The Lab is for students of NHL Stenden, Drenthe College and Alfa-college. Together, we explore how the Lab will take shape.

What's next

The Lab’s work method will be further developed in the autumn. We will then explore which parties in the field will want to participate in a sounding board group and the so-called think tanks. We will also decide how MBO and VO (secondary school) students can be involved in the Lab. Greenwise Campus will also participate in further structuring the Lab.
